Empowering the Parent Voice - A Collaborative Response to the Parent Survey
Follow Up Session

May 23, 2013 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the DDSB Education Center (Room 1011)

At Durham District School Board we are supportive of all families. We are inviting all parents who self identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender and have children in the Durham District School Board to join us for a follow up to our last evening of dialogue. LGBT parents of children in JK through Grade 12 welcome.

This year's Parent Reaching Out Grant is entitled: Empowering the Parent Voice - A Collaborative Response to the Parent Survey. Data from last year's Parent Survey indicated that social realities, in particular race, sexual orientation, and/or faith, may be barriers to parental engagement within the DDSB. This session will share and highlight data collected from DDSB parents. We will present next steps and ask for further parental input as we continue to develop a deeper understanding of some barriers experienced by the LGBTQ group and look at targeted ways of increasing desired parental involvement.

Please click here to take a quick 10 question survey to provide feedback about the new school website. We welcome feedback from students, parents/guardians, staff and community members.

A group of Pine Ridge Secondary School students is crafting a way to help people living in poverty.

Mrs. Hopper’s Life Skills class and Mrs. Anderson's Practical Learning Program class are in the midst of turning empty clean cans, otherwise destined for the recycling bin, into “Anything Cans,” to be used as containers to hold anything from pens to cotton balls. The cans are being sold, raising money for children living in poverty.

Updates:  Click here to view a video clip about Cans for Kids and a recent News Advertiser article.
